Default As promised....

So just noticed the drivers side knuckle which I did not replace has the divots from the brakes...

And as I said I would on another post... gonna try some JB weld.

Just look at those beads!!!! beautiful!

Stay tuned, once she cures, I'll grind it down and then we shall see the powers of the JB.

Anyone care to weigh in on what they think will happen?

I wish I could do a poll...

Will it work? Yes, No, Maybe for a little while.

I think it may work for awhile, but after time it will slowly chip away

I'm getting a mig welding in a couple of months so hopefully it can make it until then. At that point I'll put some real metal on it.

An actual weld would be best. Is JB safe? I say thats questionable. If the JB crumbles and the pad hangs up on it, the pad could get stuck, so right there its no better than it was. Will it work? Probably. It should work atleast once. But how long will it work? Not a clue. Lasting for a couple months? Thats a toughie. I would think the backside of the pad will tear it up fairly quickly. The knuckles are nodular cast iron, and the pads have no problems wearing it down. What are they going to do with JB?

Interesting. Never tried it, and i dont know of anyone who has, until now. Even if it does work, would i do it? No.

Default Abutment Clips !

You should give it a fair chance! Stick some abutment clips on the pads. It should last a bit longer. That's what they're intended for in the first place. They take up slack at each end of the pad, to keep it from moving back and forth, which is ultimately what forms the divots. No-one ever uses them, you never see anyone removing them on a brake job. Plus they help the calipers slide better. Grease the pins too ! I don't see it lasting too long by itself. The clips may work longer. I thought that there were different strengths in JB weld ? Last time I used it on a car. I was trying to tighten a belt, using a big screwdriver. It slipped and put a hole in the PS reservoir ! I pulled it off, cleaned it, patched it, and drove it for years afterward. But there was no HD friction going on. Curious to see how it does.

Looking at the back of the rotor, it's obvious some sticking was already going on. So really I'm not sure how this could be any worse, should it fail. By that I mean, if I thought there was some safety issue with this, I wouldn't even attempt it.

Something I do know quite a bit about is brakes. I did A LOT of them in HS auto shop, from A-Z. I even ran new brake lines in my jeep last year after one rusted out... IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. Someone cut me off, slammed my brakes, and bam she blew. brakes went to floor.

BUT I STILL STOPPED! And drove it to work and home that day (with one hand on the ebrake at all times lol). There is really no way the JB weld breaking could cause an accident etc... Maybe pull a bit to one side when braking but I rarely drive over 45 mph in this Jeep.

Also I'm not crazy... Work was about .5 miles from where my lines blew, which was coincidentally on my way home. And obviously went a lot slower and gave myself plenty of room. But you'd probably be surprised at how much brake was still there.

I'm crazy impressed with this stuff... time and time again, JB weld just does it.

These are pics I took about 1/3 of the way through grinding. I was actually doing my inner and outer axle seals when I discovered this.
So these pics are before I put the caliper on. I had to do a bit more grinding in order to get the calipers to fit back on.
Sorry I don't have final pics, I was just in a hurry to get her back together and driving down road again. I do plan on pulling the tire off here soon just to get a close look at it.
I mean driving it to the liquor store and back to get some celebratory PBR maybe doesn't count as a full test, but got it to 65 on the hwy for a few minutes. NO MORE COOKED DIFF FLUID SMELL! yay.

Brakes are fine so far. Put new rotors on because why not since I was there. Like I said, Stops just fine. I'll keep an eye out and report back if anyone cares.

This should help,,,

Abutment clips and instructions !

Loaded caliper with abutment clips.

Close-up, showing the orientation of the abutment clips. I installed the thickest clips on the load bearing side. I still had too much slack, and installed thinner clips at the top.

Totally in for long term test results.

CRLAMBERTJR: where did you source the clips from?
