Problems wiring push button start
Ok please don't tell me about how push button start in jeeps are stupid or makes it easier to steal, this is a trail rig.
That aside, make ignition switch died so I'm taking this opportunity to install a push button. Just can't figure it what wires go where. I have a 96 and there are 7 wires on the harness. I have 2 12v constant and the yellow is the starter. Crossed those two and starter turns over, great.
I'm using a chart from the12voltguy.com which says orange is accessories, blue is ignition and purple is ignition 2. If I cross those 3 wires with constant power shouldn't all my switched accessories turn on? there's also 1 small wire but I'm not sure what its for. I think its grey with a white tracer. How do I get all the switched items on with the toggle?
I attached a picture of the harness that went to the switch.

Yes, to replace an ignition switch with push button you will still need something to put power to the ignition wires and keep it there while the jeep is running, like a toggle. The toggle will need to be hooked to relays because of the current draw will be too much for a simple toggle switch. The you'll use a momentary switch for the starter wire, this will be a toggle or push button switch that will apply power momentarily to crank the starter, and you'll probably want to run this to a relay also. And then you'll want another switch/relay to power the accessory wire.
Most people lose the "start" position of the ignition switch so they only cut the starter wire and connect a switch to that. That way a key would still be needed to turn on the ignition and then push button to start.
Sounds like you've got the colors right but you might want to start checking fuses if you're just blindly snipping wires and touching them to 12V- you have have blown something.

I don't have my FSM with me, but it's possible that small grey wire is the "key sense" wire. The Key Sense wire will "see" ground when the key is inserted into the Ignition switch- typically not needed for normal operation of the vehicle. But I can't say for sure that's what that wire is. Sorry
