I went to remove my instrument cluster today to change out my illumination bulbs with LEDs and for some reason the headlight switch **** won't pass thru the hole in the bezel. Is there a pushbutton release on the bottom of the switch like the older GM switches? I really am not looking forward to ripping the bottom of the dash apart to find out! There seems to be a steel shield behind that lower panel. I also have tiltwheel which seems to be getting in the way. I'm not above cutting a slice in the panel so the **** will fit thru. What was supposed to be a half hour job turned into a debacle! Any ideas?
There is a button on the side of the switch. Pulling the panels off is easy. The plastic is held on with i think 2 bolts and some clips. The metal piece has 2 screws, and fits into a couple slots at the bottom. Once they are out of the way, look for that button. You may need a screwdriver. Push the button and pull the shaft out.
Or, file the hole a bit so the **** can slip past. I thought i seen others able to push the **** thru the hole as is tho. It was a little tight, but it fit. Might have been a TJ, dont remember.

Thank you! I almost know for sure there would be a pushbutton release, seeing as how they used many GM parts building the early Cherokees. I owned 4 Chevy trucks before switching to Jeeps. That video was perfect for showing how to access the switch from underneath. I think that steel plate is a "knee-knocker" for collision protection.
The bottom of the dash of the Chevy trucks was totally open and I used to hate standing on my shoulders to work under the dash with my hips on the seat! I have problems with the vertebra in my neck probably due to that.
Thanks for the quick come-back! Now I can get this done tomorrow if it doesn't rain!
