problem maybe found
well I have been dealing with a 90 jeep that is constantly backfiring through the tb, and have tested or replaced most of the sensors still not fixed, anyway was standing there glaring at the motor today and reached down to make sure the distibutor had no play and the engine was running, my other hand rested on the coil and lit me up 7 ways to sunday with idle speed zaps, so maybe a new coil tommorrow will fix the bad running thing, I'm never buying some elses problem again I can tell you that, bought it not running and got it running in 20 minutes but it has been a complete headache. think I'm gonna wire in a good coil I have sitting in my garage before tossing any more money into it, think this will fix it? if it doesn't I may pull the wheels and tires and haul it to the scrap yard while I can still get my money back out of it.

Cam Position sensor is usually the culprit of misfires. If you part it out you may get more out of it on this forum, just sayin lots of folks looking for stuff right here.

had same prob w/ my 99 xj. popping in TB/manifold area, acted like it was going to stall at an idle, or when driving the power would cut out and it would buck and hesitate... replace the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, tps, iac valve, flushed the gas lines, ran sea foam. this issue was present for about 5 months. and it never threw a code till one day at the shop we had the code reader on it and the CEL suddenly popped on! it said the downstream o2 sensor wasn't reading properly, so got BOTH replaced and it runs like a champ.

thanks guys, this thing is frustating the heck out of me, of course woke up today and it is freezing rain and drizzle outside, it's gonna have to wait for better weather before I dump anymore time into it, and I really need to work on my 92 which is in the garage with a blown head gasket or cracked head or something, gotta tear it down yet, been putting it off, lol.

i hear ya on the headache thing. i had my jeep like 2 months and started in with that hesitation **** and went for about 5 months.. idk how many posts i have on here about it... i found that sometimes a code will register in your system that something is off, but not off enough to trip the CEL. make sure that thing gets on a code reader as often as it can. you never know when it might decide to give you something to work with. good luck dude!
