Default problem with 4x4

sometimes when i put it in 4x4 it starts grinding, whats that from?

also some other times i press on the gas and it doesnt go any where, when in 4x4.

those ony happen about 30% of the time i use it. the rest it works fine.

whats going on? is this a major problem?

sounds like your link needs to be adjusted.

in other words you think you put your jeep in 4wd but it is really in between 4wd and N

Are you engaging it in 4WD while moving like you are supposed to. That helps it to fully engage. Chain and fluid aside the system is an on the fly system which means you are supposed to engage/disengage the 4WD while the vehicle is in motion. Mine works best at about 5MPH but my old one needed abour 8-12 MPH. Each Jeep is slightly different.

Is it bad to engage 4wd while going like 55? I've been doing it and I haven't noticed any problems. Am I killing my jeep??!! I put my jeep on our lift once and lifted it up till the tires were slightly off the ground, then started it up and put it in 4 hi and it worked fine, but then when I put it in 4lo it was grinding. Is this bc I wasn't moving? or was the t-case binding up maybe? I'm scared to put it in 4 lo again now.
