Anyone have any common problems with the power window controller on the 2001 jeep cheerokee. I can roll down all windows from the driver seat except the driver window haha. And I know the motor works cause I hooked it up to a screw gun battery and rolled it up that way. I'm running out of ideas
Year: 1998 Classic (I'll get it running soon....) and 02 Grand
Model: Cherokee (XJ)
Engine: 4.0
That's about as common as the need to change your oil!
First place to look - the wires that run from the door to the frame. They tend to get broken there. It's not always visible because the insulation jacket isn't always broken.
If that's not the issue, the switch itself is probably the culprit. There are some solder joints there that break. If you know how to solder and have the correct solder gun, you can just re-flow the solder and you'll be good for another 20 years.
Those two scenarios probably cover 80 or 90 per cent of the problems people have with the windows.
By the way , it's soldering iron, not soldering gun. Try it with one of those big buggers and you'll almost certainly wreck the switch.

I'm pretty good at soldering actually and thanks I noticed that the wires in the door by the hinges were starting to crack possibly causing shorting but I figure since all other windows worked from the switch it was maybe just that part of the circuit for just the driver window switch was messed up the circuit for the most part looked ok. I was trying to avoid replacing all the wires but I may have to

Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system
Generally it is the child safety lockout that fails. Sometimes people have found a solder joint that fails there, but most take those two wires and connect them together.
Where exactly do the wires run out to I'm thinking of removing the whole harness and soldering each wire that way it would be much easier rather than getting my hands into a small place where I can barley see anyway.

hello,
I am having a similar issue except my only window that rolls up and down is the drivers, well i think the drivers rear may but it falls off the track.
I had other work done on the jeep at a shop (oil pan gasket, rear main seal, valve cover gasket) and they was able to rolls the windows up and down rather quickly but I don't know how they did it. I can't image they could roll 4 windows up from the down position in like 3 or so minutes if they was having to remove the door panels and what not.
is there any like maybe website or something you used to show you how to roll your windows up and down? I have one that just want go up all others are up and i have a stray cat that keeps getting in past the tarps and such and it's making me grumpy.

you take a battery from a drill and connect it to wires going into regulator with alligator clips and or speaker wire
ok but i can't get to the regulator easily so there must be some other way they did it. there door panel has very few spots or holes to access and there is no way they removed 4 door panels and rolled the windows down in less than 5 minutes.
i tried to ask them but they didn't understand. maybe after this pandemic is over and things start to get back to normal if i've not found the issue (i am sure its a wiring issue still think its in the over head console) i'll run to by the shop and talk to them in person while asking about other repair work.

it depends some mechanics are pretty fast I've seen a whole entire lift kit installed in 5 minutes haha
Mine worked from the drivers door switches, but none of them
rolled down from the actual door switches. It took me 5 minutes and $2 to fix it last week.

I'm hoping it's just the controller because the wires look ok and I dont wanna start taking panels of to get to the fuse box etc
I'd like to add that you should be careful if you're going to take apart the switch. I tried it on mine, but my truck had an aftermarket switch (Switchdoctor) and they don't come apart the same way the stock ones do. I destroyed the switch. Since then, I had gotten another Switchdoctor and had to replace it (turned out, it was a broken wire in the door). They have a lifetime warranty and you only front 1 penny to replace it.
