Default Power window swich not working

Okay so if I roll down the windows from the main switches in the drivers arm rest then they work fine but if a passenger tries to roll down the window it is hit and miss. It works some times and then not 20min later. What can I do to fix this situation?

Try cleaning the switch with contact cleaner. If that doesn't work, replace the switch.

The master switch or the other ones?

hey 99xj,
I had this problem a couple weeks ago and this is what i did...
go and buy some electrical contact spray, its in like a wd40 can.
I opened up the entire window switch module, to the point i could get the little tube in there. I then blasted the hell out of everything in there, and it works fine now!

I have read that adding a ground to each switch also does wonders. Yet to try it though.

I had the same power window problem on my 2000 XJ. Power window switches worked from driver seat but not from any of the passenger seats. I had a bad window lock switch. I bypassed the switch by shorting two adjacent yellow and tan leads on a connector located inside a driver side kick-panel with a paper clip. See two pictures below...

green arrow = the connector

yellow arrow = yellow lead
tan arrow = tan lead
red arrow = paper clip

Not shown in the pictures but I covered up the pin and connector with some electrical tape.

Now all window switches work fine, but of course the windows lock switch is inoperable. The switch is permanently closed (effectively with the paper clip) so all window switches work at all time. My kids are grown so no need for a lockout.

mine is doing the same exact thing all windows work fine from driver panel....no windows work from there own switch. You can pretty much assume that switch is bad. I will probally by-pass mine rather than take apart the door panel.

Default jeep window problems.

i had the same problem with my 87. however i traced the wires back to the ignition believe it or not. in jeeps the ignition has a little bar that moves back and forth as you turn the key, over time the switch gets worn and doesnt quite touch the leads together, try wiggling the key back and forth and then try the windows, works for me. i am more or less stuck with my driver window however it doesnt seem to work even when i hard wire it in. i have a bad motor.

I did the bypass on my 2001 and it works great now....you can always add a switch somewhere if you need the lock out part.

I have the same problem, except the window lock works (according to my test light).
that's *technically* a 95 (all 95 parts in 87 comanche). only driver's side windows work. all rear wiring was cut out so it's possible that I need a continous loop or something.

have another problem in my bro's 89 cherokee...everything BUT the driver's window works. I've tried everything from new switches to a new motor...can't get it to work. it works when I apply power from a battery in either direction, just not from a switch.

any ideas for that too?
