Default power steering pump question

Hello Everyone,

I am doing a lot of work on my jeep, going slow at my own pace working a couple of hours until it gets too hot out.

I look to be about doing taking stuff apart and getting ready to start putting the stuff back together.

I took the pulley off the old pump and am putting it on the new pump.

How do I know when its on all the way. It looks good but I forgot to look at the old one before I took it off. I'd hate to not have it all the way on and have it come flying off when reconnected to the engine. But on the other hand I'd hate to over tighten it too.

Is there some special way of knowing its on all the way like a click or do you just go until you can no longer turn the wrenches.

When reassembled, it isn't just gonna come flying off as it is gonna be strapped down with a grooved belt. Make sure that all the pulleys line up so the belt runs straight.

Look at the old pump if you still have it and you can see about where it stopped on it. I left about 3/8" on mine. But yeah, as long as the belt is straight with the others it should be fine.

The outer edge of the pulley should be flush with the end of the shaft.

I really wish I would have taken a look at the old one before removing it.

I guess I'll keep the pulley kit until I have everything back together.

I was or am afraid to crank down to much on it. It looks very close to where it should be and I guess as long as the belt is straight I am good to go.

I am beginning to wonder if I tried to do to many repairs all at once. It just seemed like a good idea especially in the engine area where I was removing half of the stuff in the way.

I guess its a lot like work half of the time it seems like so much stuff is left to be done but only bits and pieces of things and it wraps up pretty quickly.

Hopefully I've learned enough on this to do most of the same on my dodge ram van plus the trans lines themselves too.
