Thumbs down Power steering issue need a quick fox for now

Hey Everyone,

Let me start by saying this is an awesome forum you guys know your stuff!

Anyway i have a problem with a hose leak, and its pretty major, it sprays everywhere and the engine smokes pretty bad its un-drivable with the smoke.

i see the parts for this are expensive from what i can tell, unless you guys know otherwise.

My questions is what parts do i need, and can i disable power steering for now somehow?

You can replace both for less than $30. IIRC, one is a 16mm and the other is 18mm? I think. Use a flare wrench.

Turning with out power steering sucks. I wouldn't disable it. I would park it, fix it, drive it in that order.

If you need a quick FOX, start looking in the woods.

Rockauto lists the following for a 97-01. http://www.rockauto.com/

Make > Year > Model > Engine > Steering

Return line - Gates 363510
Supply line - Gates 353770

There are other brands (Sunsong, Edelmann, etc.), i just listed Gates as its one of the more commonly known brands. Atleast to me.

Advance Auto works too. They might even be faster as they can sometimes order parts for next day delivery. And should you need a return, it will be quicker than Rockauto. And likely cheaper as Rockauto does not reimburse shipping. It may take a few days to authorize a return as well.

I got part numbers 80290 and 80402 the equivalent from the ones above one of them has the metal end but the other end is just the hose, is this correct?

Correct. One end is a hardline, the other end is just rubber. The rubber end goes to the backside of the reservoir.
