Default power loss

1996 4.0L Cherokee. HELP PLEASE Was out today and when trying to pass some cars floored it quite hard. Engine only revs to around 2500 then drops back to around 1700 then goes up and down but with NO power. It feels like fuel starvation. Any ideas where to look PLEASE +THANKS--just filled it with fuel and tried again.seems ok when cooler but fault comes when warmed up. could it be electrical?? any ideas PLEASE

Do you run Catalytic Converters in Scotland? Sounds typical of a clogged cat/muffler.

Try tapping on the exhaust listening for particles inside that can clog flow while running.

Only seems low on power when you attempt to pass?

Have you attempted to adjust the trans kickdown cable? Is this an automatic?

Replace the fuel filter?

Do you have a Factory Service Manual?
