99 xj sport. power locks, remote locking,

i tore into my driver door to fix an inop door speaker, on reassembly found i've developed a power lock problem. when my key is in the ignition, my door locks won't lock, no lock signal sent from any switch; still does unlock signal with key in. with key out or once i pull key out past that microswitch in ignition, it'll lock and unlock fine with either door switch

did i accidently turn on some horrible anti-lockout type "feature"? how do i get my power locks to work correctly with key in and key out of ignition?
