Default Is it possible to salvage steering box spacer?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to mount my new JCR bumper, but I ended up snapping the heads off of one of the bolts. I found a write up on how to remove the bolt, but I don't understand why he broke the steering box spacer...? I know it would probably just be best to break it off and get a new one, but my dealership wants 850$ for a new one LOLOLOL. Do the holes in the spacer have treads? Why can't it just slide off..

Should I save myself the trouble and just buy the JCR spacer?

I would just get the JCR spacer and call it a day.

It's 2 dissimilar metals in intimate contact causing an electrochemical reaction. The steel bolts welded themselves into the alloy bracket. It's pretty common.

As the second poster recommended, get an after market all steel bracket and call it a day. $65.00 for the inner and $90-$100 for the inner and outer. It's a small price to pay to firm up that part of the steering once and for all.

The only problem I had was installing the new frame sleeves. There are sleeves that come with the new bracket that go inside a sleeve that's already in the frame (they eliminate play in the holes for the box bolts).

What made it difficult was finding something that would go all the through the sleeve in the frame to clean out the rust and corrosion to slip the new sleeves in.

If I had it to do again, a rat tail file probably would'a been a good choice.

Hope that helps
