i took the shifter fork off. Then i realized the collar is kinda sticky and a little hard to move left and right. So i put it in 4 high manually. Then i kept the shifter fork off. it worked great. So i put the shifter fork back on hooked it all back up and then going about 40 it just popped back out!!!! It works with the shifter fork off and when i put it back on it makes it go out....ideas?

it wont engage either. I put it in 4 high and the shifter fork doesnt move. Sooo wtf!!!!! to manually engage it i have to drive a few feet then push over the collar with my hands then it works. then i put on the shifter fork and it stops working

im not sure.
So i got the collar to go to 4 wheel drive. i had to push it over really hard to get it to work......should i just put a bolt in the diphram housing locking in the shift fork?

thats thge 231 if theres grind noises coming from there either the linkage is not adjusted right or gears are bad or chain is slipping on gears as for the fork on front axle ive seen washers put the bar that runs thru the fork to hold it in place over both axles

just found two metal pieces it there behind the collar!!!1 one is about in inch and one is about half an inch...........
From this statement I'm guessing your really talking about the axle disconnect on the front drive axle and not the actual transfer case, correct?

THOSE TWO CHUNKS WERE IN THERE. that explains where the grinding was coming from and that explains why it couldnt slide to 4 high
