Poping noise when braking in reverse
Anyone ever hear a popping noise on there XJ while going in reverse and making a complete stop? Sounds like my front driveshafts double cargan joint? Help please... should i just take her apart and see if the u joints are bad?

yeah, it's always a good idea to check out u-joints. they're cheap and easy to replace.
but the only time i had any noise or thumping if you will, was from the lower control arm bushings at the frame end. they were on my rubicon express arms, but none the less, they were shot, and when backing up and tapping the brake pedal, they had enough play to thump.
check brake calipers too, they do the same thing when loose.

ya the calipers were the first thing I checked and they are torqued down good and I also just put new control arms recently with the RC drop bracket kit. i kept thinking that my drop brackets kept loosening up and actually the rear supporting bracket (its a 3 peice kit for each side if you guys aren't familiar with it) was a couple turns loose so I tightened them up and got tired of worrying about them so I decided to weld the whole bracket assembly to my frame. (no more worries) Before I did that though it made this poping noise anytime I hit a big bump but now its only when I go in reverse like I was saying before. Thanks for the input so far though. Ill be checkin the U's tonight.

Mine is doing the same thing. I thought that it was mine u-joint, but it was still doing the same thing. Mine looks like upper control arm bushings on the axle side, so check that out too. It is making the axle rotate a little and that is what wore out my u-joint in the first place

Yeah I noticed my axle rotating a little bit when I was looking under it with my hand on the brake pedal while it was in reverse. Just didnt know if it was normal for the bushings in the arms to give a little? I remember trying to take my CA off on the axle mounts when I was putting my lift on but the bolts wouldnt budge so I said screw them because I wasnt replacing the arms anyway... I guess ill try givin them another tug.
