Stranded on the beach please help.
Jeep ran ok for 3 hr drive here. 1996 cherokee sport. Stock. On the beach went from park to drive and gave it a little gas. It sputtered and died now wont start. Gauges all work it will crank but not start. 3 days ago I did new plugs, wires ,cap and rotor and fuel filter. It has run fine since. Although 1 time I accelerated and it sputters and then it goes.
I just did some testing. And I don't think it is getting spark to the distributed cap.
Please help ASAP on the beach and Tide is about to turn.

When I would accelerate it would sputter a little bit. But it only did that a few times after it sat over night. I thought it was fuel. But other than that all the work the other day was just to tune up before our trip.

I found this online
I would start with swapping the ASD relay in the power distribution box (black box under the hood on the passenger side) with another non-critical relay like the e-fan. If that allows the engine to start, then you know what relay to replace.

Does the starter turn over when you crank?
If not, hit the starter a few times with hammer, or what ever you have available, a fist sized rock would do, you won't damage the starter, the case is pretty tough I know because before I got my new starter I'd beat the daylights out of mine with a hammer to get it started.
