FINALLY found out what was causing the problem. Had to break down and take it to a shop, but come to find out the clutch pedal bracket is bent! Not allowing me to push the rod into the master all the way...
Not even sure I needed to replace my clutch!!
Also not sure how it got bent, but might be something people should check if they're having a similar problem. Thanks for the help,
Dylan

I have no idea... that's thick steel! Here's a pic:

Bent it back into shape and it works great! Didn't need to replace the clutch, slave or master! But glad I did anyway.

So I'm reviving an old thread here, but believe it or not the problem was NOT completely fixed by the bent clutch pedal.
I'm pretty much at wits end here. Finally put the xj up on a car lift and pulled the tranny. I can only assume now that it's a defective slave cylinder. Going to Schucks now to return it... I'll let you all know how it goes!

Way to revive the old one rather than start a new one! Jeeps are a very frustrating race. But we must learn to co exist

I'm ready to extinguish! I hope this new setup solves my problem... If not I'm sure a torch and some gasoline will...
Will let you know either way.

So I put the thing up on a lift and tore the tranny out (again!) and come to find out it was a defective slave cylinder. Luckily it was under warranty, but schucks doesn't seem to warrant time, labor and headache. Either way, I'm glad to have it back on the road! And hopefully the trails soon. See you out there!

Hey i just did my clutch and had a fading issue so i took my slave and master apart and cleaned them. and couldn't bleed it. but figured it out. i took the piston out of the slave and filled it and pushed the piston in with cap off the master. and then just pump the hell outa the pedal with the cap off. worked great on my 94 XJ

Default same thing

I replaced the clutch, and slave in my 90,clutch wont disengage, bled a quart or so thru it using a bleeder valve,no change. So i juts got done replacing the master cylinder, and bleeding another 1/2 quart or so thru it,no air in my tube coming out, still clutch refuses to disengage. Is my next move to try the line? in case it's bulging? or pull the clutch?

Sounds like the same problem I had. I'm not sure if you have the same setup as me, because I know Jeep went with a couple different setups through the years... but my slave is a concentric doughnut-accordian looking thingy and that was the problem. The brand new one I bought was faulty. Replaced it and my problem was solved. If you've replaced the master already and it still won't bleed I would just work on replacing the slave again. I doubt there will be any bulge in your lines. Good luck!

I just did my clutch master cylinder too. Ended up not even having to bleed it, just pump the clutch pedal about three hundred times and it'll start to build pressure. Drove it all over town and it seems to be getting better.
