Default Please help! I am trying to remove ring gear

I am trying to remove the ring gear assembly and its not coming out. Everything is torn apart and scattered across driveway and now I'm stuck. Removed axles, removed bearing caps and the ring gear turns freely but will not come out. I have hammered on it lightly but don"t want to break it. Any thoughts?

If you want to take it out of the housing, just use a pry bar. If you have it out you can tap it off evenly with a hammer. It is tougher than the hammer.

I assume your trying to get the carrier out of the housing. X2 on the pry bar, just be careful where you put it. Stay away from any bearing surfaces or the teeth on the ring gear. Don't worry, your not going to break it. Give it hell

Try tapping the bearing caps lightly and as said in prior posts "Prybar it"...Tj

Another trick is to stuff a rag bag my the pinion. Then rotate the pinion which will pull the rag in and pop the carrier.

Stick a rag in there to pop the carrier? I never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life.....worked like a fricking charm. Ran a regular old shop rag in and it popped right out. You're a genius.......... The reason for the removal is to replace the leaky seal on the left axle. I must have nicked it when I was replacing the hubs and the axle pulled out. Any tricks you care to share on seal replacement or axle install? I would love to hear them. Thanks again
