What's wrong with pocket protectors?
Here is another interesting thing I just noticed. I happened to pull the shroud I took out of the 1998 Cherokee when I put the 1999 motor in it. The picture shows the 1999 shroud I bought last week (installed). The shroud sitting on the engine is the original one that came out of the 1998. Notice how they are shaped differently. Anyone know why?

SCRATCH this picture. My bad, once I looked at the 1998 shroud in closer I realized what I thought was the top is actually the bottom. My Top is broken off so not sure what a 1998 looks like... Sorry!

The '99 design is an improved less abrupt change in area and shape from the rad core to the fan area for more efficient air flow.

Interesting... So the results may not have been as dramatic with the 1998 shroud. I can believe that from looking at it. Good old experimentation... always leads to new ideas and knowledge.
Maybe everyone with pre 1999 systems would benefit from the newer shroud. The radiator I put in was a new 1999. I wonder if the 1999 shroud would fit the older ones. I think I still have that 1998 radiator around somewhere, I'll have to see if the slotted holes are the same for the shroud tabs to plug into.
Observing the test in person was more eye-opening than the pictures do it justice.
I am not in a hurry to rush to the Dealer to buy a shroud for my purple jeep. I think before I do that I will check into that Ford Taurus conversion. Does that allow fans on both sides of the radiator to kick on at the same time? I should think keeping the airflow on the Driver's side flowing would be a good thing as well. Maybe lengthen the time hoses, gaskets, exhaust manifold, engine and so on last.
Have to think about that one. Maybe someone has data on that out there.

i don't know i think the ford taures upgrade is similar to our normal set up with one for air and other for main cooling. but you can wire how ever you want to it wont really matter

thats wierd, I just went and looked at my jeep's fan shroud and mine has the 99 version. The PO might have put it on there, because I know I didn't. Maybe different models came with different shrouds?? My heep is a renix 90'.

I just looked at my 1998 shroud again. In the picture I took I thought the piece I had was the top. It was the bottom... The top piece was broke off mine. We'll have to look at the top of someone's 1998 shroud and compare it to a 1999 shroud.
But it sounds like old blue is saying they are different. He is not a man known to be wrong... !!!
I noticed the 1998 shroud upper and lower mounting tabs do line up with the holes on the 1999 radiator so I assume it would work visa-versa.
What's the glory of the Taurus fan? More air flow?

Hey now, I'm wrong occasionally just like everyone else. The difference is I try to think before I post, and don't just let the crap fly *****-nilly. When wrong I'll acknowledge same and apologize.

I was saying that with all due respect old blue... that's what I like about your posts!
Maybe what happened is they phased the old fan shrouds out when they went to the 1999 style. We could see if both part numbers are still available. Have to check through the dealer though I think... because some of those parts places might have old inventory of the older style. Unless there is a way to search p/n's...
