Does any one know the pinion bearing pre-load for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with the Chrysler 8.25 29 spline axle? i would like to know the bearing pre-load for the axle when it has the carrier in already. But all specs help, any help will be greatly appreciated

Pinion bearing preload should be checked before the carrier is installed, you don't really have an accurate reading because of the extra drag from the carrier bearings and the pinion moving the mass of the whole assembly.

I know that but i also know that sometimes there is also a preload spec with the carrier installed, and that will be a higher number due to the drag.Does anybody know the preload with out the carrier installed?

Chrysler 8.25: Setting pinion preload - Installed new bearings and crush sleeve, new pinion nut. The Jeep/Mopar TSM says to set the pinion rotational preload to 10-20 in/lb for used bearing, and 10-30 in/lb for new bearings. BUT every chart I find on line (from gear suppliers) says 12-15 in/lb for new bearings as do most "forums"
Follow the TSM or the "rebuild kit" suppliers and forums ??
