Default Performance Intake and Exhaust Question

Well just the other day I decided since my stock muffler was starting to rust through i'd put a performance one on. A friend gave me a Thrush Turbo reverse flow muffler for only a few bucks and after putting that on I decided not to bother reconnecting the whole tailpipe section and just put a turndown right after the muffler (angled half down, half out the side to minimize exhaust buildup down below), the whole package giving me far reduced exhaust restriction.

Also my Jeep when I bought it had a K&N FIPK and a bored over throttle body put on it put on by the previous owner. But what my question is is while im sure these mods don't harm my engine performance, ive been reading that you can make modifications like this do much more if you change the programming for the PCM and mess around with the timing and mixture to compensate for them. I would like to do this but I have absolutely zero idea what is involved, also as to what i'd need to do it tool wise and what to actually change as well.

Does anyone have any experience doing stuff like this or is it not really worth bothering with, or just something I cant do without super expensive tools?

The previous owner with my jeep put on some kind of "performance" intake. It looks more like one you peice together from autozone. Would it be better to leave this on or go get a stock air intake and put it back on. i've heard that putting performance air intakes kinda mess things up.

Not worth the time or money. Unless you get a different cam and head and stuff like that the other things are basically worthless.

Also, I dont know where you are at but your exhaust setup might not be legal. Where I am I believe it has to exit the vehicle away from the passenger compartment. If yours just turns straight down I would wonder if its legal.

Just reset the ECM and it will adjust for the difference in air flow. Unless you are putting it on a dyno for a tune, a 'chip' will not do much for you.

A performance intake would not 'mess things up.' If this was true then every Mustang, tuner car, etc. would be 'messed up.'

I have a MOPAR factory intake on mine. Why would the factory develop an intake that would create problems?

when the computer senses more air from the "cold air intake" it adjusts for it by putting in more fuel thats why you might see a decrease in mpg's. the only way to fix it is to have your ecm tuned to give the power and readjust it so that it doesnt overkill it

I didnt know there were actually any laws regarding that, what state do you live in? I havent been able to find any laws about that in NY, but im not sure maybe ill just ask a shop about it, I dont want to fail inspection because of it.
