Default Passenger Window Not Working?

My Passenger window in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport will not roll up. The illuminated switch is still lit but wont cause even slight movement. I know of two people who experienced the exact same issue with the exact same vehicle. They suggested I take my door anel off and wipe off the switch; what should I try first?

Sounds like you need a window regulator.

Do you get any sound when the switch is flipped? Dimming of the interior lights like its draining power struggling?

I had the same happen on both the driver and passenger side. In both cases it was the regulator, apparently this is a common problem. Not a cheap repair, I had the repair made by the mechanic I go to and it cost $450+ for each window, thankfully 1-1/2 years between.

had the same exact problem, same exact jeep. open both doors and pull the tubing back that covers all the wires and check the wires for cracking...i had two of mine crack. i fixed them up with a splice (well actaully my girlfriend did, shes awesome =] ) anyways give it a try! i fixed my passenger and rear right window this way...a lot better then paying the dealership or shop a fortune

My wife doesn't even like to ride in my XJ, let alone work on it... You got yourself a keeper there.

The shop I go to has an excellent reputation for good work, yet I also received 3 other quotes in the area, including a dealer and they were all within $20.00 of each other, so I do not think I was taken. Yes expensive, most of it was labor.

Same problem on my 2000 XJ, purple/white wire lost continuity from drivers switch to the harness by the drivers kick panel, which kept the passenger window from going up. All switches had lights. I spliced in a new wire and it's all working again.

It sounds like the master window switch, or the window regulator has gone. There are ways to bypass this. Someone recommended checking in between the door where the rubber boot is. There are often times a lot of crack or frayed wires in there. Another thing you can do is splice at the harness just like in the picture attached. This will help you this will bypass that faulty system. I had to do this on mine. I ended up soldering a wire in between the two instead of just the paperclip as it would not hold steady. A hell of a lot cheaper than a new master window switch which I found for about $140. And a lot quicker than going to the junkyard..

If you are looking where to find that harness down by your left foot there is a kick panel kind of where your hood release is. Remove that and you will see the harness!

No, the illuminated switch will be on sometimes but very rarely.
