parking lights/low beam headlights

parking lights/low beam headlights
ok i have an 89 xj and i was driving with my brights on one night and then turned them off when i saw a car coming at me and my low beams didnt work.. when i had my 95 xj it did the samething and on both of them my front marking lights under the headlights dont work but the ones on the fenders do. so has anyone ever had this problem or have any ideas where to start looking to fix it. thanks and i have searched the forms too for this problem if i missed a write up i am sorry
