Hi All,

After much reading on this site, I recently purchased a new to me 98 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0. The Check engine light was on when I bought it. After bringing the jeep home I put the scanner on it. It gave codes for fuel sending unit, P700 & 1694, and the oil pressure gauge would work intermittently (which I understand is common problem with these trucks). I grounded the voltage (3.4) at the connector by the tank with my test light. This pegged the fuel gauge, so I am assuming that problem is in the fuel pump module in the tank.

Anyways, my main concern is P700 & 1694. The jeep transmission shifts fine, but I would like to get this resolved so my check engine light is off. My understanding so far is that P700 is a generic transmission code and that my problem truly is with the 1694 code. I have been following this thread to try and resolve the issue: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/cod...no-bus-166340/

According to that thread my problem lies in:
P1694-CCD MESSAGE FROM JTEC FAILURE

Possible Causes:

INTERMITTENT WIRING AND/OR CONNECTORS
CCD BUS (+) CIRCUIT OPEN TO PCM
CCD BUS (-) CIRCUIT OPEN TO PCM
TCM - CCD BUS OPEN

I have tested the pins on the PCM (C28 & C30) and got a reading of 120ohms. At the DLC, I have 2.4 volts on pin 3, and 2.37 volts at pin 11. I do not get any voltage readings at pins 4 & 5 at the DLC. When I ohm out pins 3 & 11 at the DLC I get 70 ohms. This seems like too much resistance right? What would be the next logical step in diagnosing this thing? Do I need to Disconnect the C100 connector to the instrument cluster and ohm the circuit out between the DLC and connector, or is my lack of voltage at pins 4 and 5 something I should investigate before going further?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you sure it has the correct trans computer, and the previous owner didn't do a swap?

Remove and clean the grounds. It may or may not help, but they are worth doing as you just bought it.
