Default p0118 on 97 cherokee

Hello all,
I am getting the P0118 code and temperature gauge goes up and then goes back down to lowest temp even after idling up the temperature. Also, the electric fan will not stop until the battery is dead, even in the dead of winter! I haven't run it too much lately since the inspection (VA) is dead and I just completed replacing rear brakes, axle seals and wheel bearings as well as front ujoints, wheel bearing/hub assembly, rotors, and brakes. I have also replaced the temperature sensor in the front of the engine. I keep seeing references to a temperature sending unit or a second sensor on the rear driver side of the engine. I do not see this. does it exist on the 97? if so can someone please help with a good description/pic of what it may look like/where I can find it.
I am jonesing to get this thing on the road and this is one of my last issues.
Please help.
Thanks in advance

P0118: Jeep, Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input

The coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing is the one you should be looking at, IIRC.

I have already replaced the sensor on the thermostat housing. I guess I will try the wiring now and trace it out. Anyone have any other suggestions?
