Have you ran it since then? Did it do normally?
I would start with replacing the thermostat and having a pressure test done and go from there...... No external leaks or drop in pressure test points to a internal leak for the dissapearing coolant.

on my 87 I had to modifie the bottle a little cuz I couldn't find the right hose to fit that step down off the bottle.Still leaks though. How ever I did find a complete hose kit on line from TeamCherokee.Com.Will be odering that along with an aluminum pressure tank from MacsRadiator in about a week.should fix my leak for good.

your bottle could be cracked very slightly and when it gets warm (while driving) it expands and releases coolant then when it cools off in 15 degree weather it contracts again . my old ford exploder did it all the time last year. also check around the t-stat it could be a minor leak there too.

Hmm, head gasket??? any water in the oil or vice versa?? If one of the water passages are compromised by the exhaust manifold, the exhaust pressure can cause the coolant to spew out the overflow and it to overheat. Of course I would start with the simpple stuff, thermostat, rad cap etc. A leakdown test would help, also check your plugs, if you have one that is real clean, that could be the indication of coolant getting in the combustion chamber and cleaning the spark plug.

i dont think that the outside air temp plays a role. im in arizona where it is never cold and mine did the exact same thing after i got my cap replaced. after i stopped messing with the cap, it was fine. just my 2cents, maybe it has to do something with pressure around the cap?
