Overheating and don't know why...HELP!
X2 on the advice from freedgr. Run a pressure check on the system. Remember to pressure check the cap too. The cap is often overlooked in these situations because it's one of those things that we easily take for granted...

The radiator cap is new, so I should be good there. I am asking around to see if anybody I know has a pressure tester.
I have to check my grounds or something on the e-fan also because I did pull the plug off of the rear temp sensor and the fan did not come on like I have heard it is supposed to.

I was reading my Haynes manual and it was saying how when the engine is cold that the fan clutch should turn freely and after the engine warms up and you turn it off the fan should have some resistance. Well mine has the same amount of resistance when it is cold as it does when it is hot. If I turn it by hand it hardly moves( maybe a 1/4 turn), so I am just going to replace it in case that is part of my problem. I am still not sure why my e-fan doesn't come on when the temperature gets hot. I pulled the plug off of the temp sensor in the thermostat housing and the fan comes on and it will come on with the switch that I installed. That tells me that the fan works, but I must have some kind of issue in the wiring. I don't know.

I've heard a final way to get any air left out of your system is to park your XJ at such an incline, nose down, that all the air floats to the back of the engine where your gauge-temperature sensor is (there's one sensor for the ECU and a different one for your gauges). When you unplug/unscrew it the air should escape from there, and I guess that's where you would top it off. This sensor, I believe, is at the very back of the cylinder head corner on the driver's side of the valve cover. You might hard-wire that electric fan, too, to see if that helps.

I was messing with it a little today and I noticed that the temp gauge stays between 210 and the line before the red starts. The e-fan is still not coming on like it should, so I was messing with the relay and if I don't have it pushed in all the way and move it around the fan will move some and I can feel the relay clicking. I do not know what to do or why the fan will not come on by itself. Do you think it sounds like an electrical problem with the fan moving when I move the relay around. I have tried a few relays with the same result.
