Default Overheating

i have an 88 Cherokee. And when i go out and drive for a little bit the cap on the coolant reservoir doesn't pop off but water stats seeping out of the top. any ideas why ? water pump is pumping water i was gonna take the thermostat off but when i checked it there wasn't even one there. Im thinking maybe there is a clogged hose or something

It's a closed system, which means the cap on the reservoir has notches in the threads to help relieve pressure. You must have air in the system. It's trying to "burp" the air out by seeping out of the cap. Try bleeding the cooling system by loosening the temp sending unit on the back of the block, when coolant starts to seep out, tighten it back up and your good to go.

If the PO removed the t-stat, that should be a red flag indicating cooling system issues......maybe time for some cooling system R&R. Band-aids might need replacing.
