ckysodkorn xj....I had to fix my temp/compass module in my 91'. I can tell you after 1993 they switched to a slightly different style. If your looking for the exact model offered in your year. (Didn't mean to thread jack)

Hey! I was wondering if you could send me that Word Document about that console too. I have a 97 Country that I was planing to do the same thing to. The jeep I got the console from is a 97 country too, but all i got was just the console. The jeep is still in the junk yard, so would it be a good idea for me to get the wiring harness too? Any info would be great!! Thanks!

To all the guys requesting the doc from me I have to apologize. I'm in the middle of moving and that desktop computer is still in a box. I'm out of town on business right now and won't get it out and setup until this weekend. Sorry for the delay.
If anyone I've given it to already can chime in maybe you can send it to some people.

This site is excellent, all kinds of well written "how to" info.
Well worth a look if you are interested in modding your jeep.
I did the same mod, just like it says, no surprises.

Wow, that pretty much covers it. I have a word doc that I was going to post, but that link has pretty much everything you need to know. I did this mod about three months ago and will add a few things. First off, my jeep is a 2000 and the donor ohc was 97. The wiring harness was slightly different, but easy to fix. I was able to use the harness from the 97 but got another non ohc harness from another 00 at the junkyard. This allowed me to fabricate without removing the one already in the vehicle.
The lighted mirror/visor wiring out of my 00 had two wires (pos and gnd). The 97 only had the pos. I simply cut the plugs from the 00 harness and created a pigtail for the ground that I wired into another ground wire. No problem. The other major difference was the main plug that was under the glovebox. I was able to disassemble the 00 plug and reassemble it with the 97 harness allowing the ohc and the jeep to communicate.
The bracket that holds the ohc is different than the one that is already there. I drilled out the one rivet and reinstalled the new bracket (requisitioned from the donor vehicle) with a new aluminum 3/16 short rivet. I also added a bead of liquid nail to solidify the bond and eliminate any chance of a rattle. Speaking of rattles, there are two clips in the headliner that the old light screws into. Make sure to remove them and the metal backing plate that they attach to, they will rattle with no screws in them. Two little push plugs hold it in.
Lastly, DON'T DO WHAT I DID! I used to study engineering and love to measure things out to the nub. A nice gentleman posted some pictures of the factory headliner that came from a ohc console equipped jeep. The pics had a tape measure in them. I printed and scaled out the pics to the 1/32 of an inch and proceeded to trace out the pattern with a permanent (IDIOT) marker and cut out the hole. Basking in my grandeur, I placed the ohc and realized the holes and marks were too big allowing them both to be seen with the console in place! In short, make the holes smaller than you think they should be. You can always cut out more if needed. Use blue painting tape to mark out the pattern before you cut and hold the console in place first to make sure everything is right.
This is a pretty easy mod. I am tickled to say the least (barring the ink and cuts) with the results. If you are getting this from a donor vehicle, all you will need is:
the console
the metal bracket
and the harness- do the work and pull it all the way from the lower kick panel, you won't be sorry.
One other note, I disassembled most of the dash as well. I bet I could have weasled it in by twisting and forcing things, but with all that plastic and the cooler temps, I opted to remove rather than risking breaking things.
Hope this helps.

Rainman in post #10 has the measurements.Anyone else thinking of doing this, when you go to the jy to get the console just cut out a chunk of the headliner to and use it as a template for your new holes.
I've got an outstanding Word document that I used to install mine. It's based on the 97+ installation and covers any type of year to year issues you'll encounter. PM me your E-Mail address, and I'll send it out to you. BTW, it's a great upgrade and comes in really handy during long trips.
