I have a temp read out with a compas over head (above the mirror along the headliner). The temp reading is way off. Its in the 20s here and its reading in the 70s. Can anyone provide me with some feedback on this?

thanks

I wish mine read 70. lol its like 60 here and mine reads 18. lol But I can only get it to come on sometimes. I went to the dealer to just price a new one and they want over 600 bucks.

Mine is typically dead on, but it reads way off under certain conditions:
1) If I start the Jeep & it sits for a long time running
2) In the summer time while parked in the Sun - running
3) In stop & go traffic

Notice a trend? Ambient engine temps affect my sensor. If it's simply sitting there with the engine off the readings are correct (I've compared with the 2 thermometers in the house & also my other truck). In each situation, after actually driving for a few minutes the air flow returns the sensor to a normal reading. I don't know if this is normal, but I don't sweat it. If this is your situation, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah ambient temps aren't the cause my my gauge being off. Its off all the time no matter what the condition. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to correct it.

I would laugh about it or tell your friends its giving you "secret codes." I mean, really, do you look at the thing? Is it more important than say installing a locker or a lift?

Well I'm already lifted and not going to be installing lockers. I was just curious to see if it was a cheap sensor that could fix it. If it was 20-30 bucks then yeah it would be worth it to me to fix it. For 600 its definitely not worth it. I definitely have a ton of other stuff to buy before shelling out that kind of money.

O I agree. Im lifted and no plans for a locker also but 600 is way to hight to get a new one. But then again I have a 91 and fuel consumpetion was not part of it yet. I dont know about yours. I havnt tried looking any where else for one besides the dealer and the Junk Yard.

Well does anyone know for sure if you have to replace the entire module or if it does indeed have a sensor that is replaceable?

Don't worry about that guy. His jeep is probably in crappy condition with a lift and tires that cost about as much as a benz. Some people just care for their cars and some don't. I do. I like things to work the way their supposed to.

People should also know that we are in the forum to help our fellow xj drivers, not to say stupid stuff about each other.
