Default Options on headboard/headliner XJ 1990

Hey all,

So the other week I ripped the headboard out to fix the sagging headliner, no big deal. Get it out, rip off the old stuff and scraped off all old glue.

Read some threads that the board is fiberglass and that I should just paint it. Tried to find the fiberglass, no such thing on my old baby. Just a soft headboard...

Has anyone painted this board?
I spraypainted one corner to see what it'd look like but since it's all soft material it looks like crap. Might go into some store and ask for a good primer of some sort that will harden or smooth things out.

If anyone has any tips or ideas about this, I'd be happy to read them

I know people have bedlined their headliner before. Don't know what sort of prep that took though. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone just use regular paint before.

I just replaced mine with new fabric and I'm really happy with it. Pretty easy to do actually

Just replace it with headliner fabric from the local fabric store. You'll be glad you did it. Painting it or ripping it out would look ghetto IMO and you may regret it. It's not hard you did the hard stuff getting it out.

You need three yards of the stuff (it's cloth with a quarter inch foam backing glued to it). Get three cans of 3M yellow heavy duty spray adhesive. You can get away with two cans if you're careful.

Target/wallmart carry material pretty reasonable think I spent around 20 dollars for camo then found perfect headliner at u-pull 11 dolkars .

The 85 XJ i just got has no headliner. Not sure I can find one local at a JY so I am thinking of taking a sheet of the blue foam board from Lowe's and use that to fab up a headliner board then cover that with some fabric. Has anyone tried that before?

I am thinking it would give a little more insulation and maybe more sound deadening.

I believe in this.
I tried a bit last night but ran out of glue and it got worse.. Going to get some more fabric, just usual cloth and more glue.

Thanks guys!
