opinion on tranny fluid filter

Default opinion on tranny fluid filter

im changing the fluid today and was wondering if i should replace the gasket and filter too. i was going to see how dirty the oil was when i drain it before i unbolt the pan...
any thoughts?

I didn't change mine..If memory serves the filter is nothing more then a wire mesh screen..

Changing fluid is easy if you start messing with the filter and stuff you are looking at a whole new PIA then, IMO don't do it.

I've always changed the filter when doing the fluid change. never had any problems, and yes some filter kits are just screens and some are a paper-type-element. just changed my fluid and filter on my 98' Cherokee and the filter kit was 21.00, plus fluid. more piece of mind? don't know, just always changed them on all vehicles i've ever owned. kinda like changing the engine oil and not the filter, doesn't make sense to me. it's my opinion, that's all.
