How about modifying the rear hatch to make it a flip up window and fold down tail gate? It would take some fabricating but could be doable.

Ive seen people do that, mostly though they don't make the glass removable they just cut it in half.

And I'm surprised no one said anything about the exhaust fumes coming back into the jeep. So I'm just throwing this out there there is a chance fumes could come back inside, but it's nothing that's going to hurt you since the air will almost alway being flowing out the back do just a little bit of a heads up for someone looking to do this and may not have thought of that.

I just popped mine out, only get the stinky exhaust really bad in reverse. Might get a little at slow wheeling speeds, guess I'll find out in a couple hours

I just tried to pop mine out and it looks like its glued in..But I dont know for sure

Edit: Turns out if you have a 98+ you cant do this

LIFTGATE GLASS REMOVAL:
(1) Open liftgate.
(2) Remove liftgate trim panel.
(3) Disconnect heated backlite (HBL) connector.
(4) Remove wiper arm.
(5) Remove CHMSL lens.
(6) Using a razor knife, slide the blade between
the liftgate glass and the inboard edge of the reveal
molding.
(7) Cut around the interior perimeter of the reveal
molding and severe the cap of the reveal molding.
(8) Using a cold knife, cut urethane bonding from
around liftgate glass. A pneumatic cutting device can
be used if available.
(9) Separate glass from Liftgate.

They're bonded in like a front windshield on the newer XJs with metal hatches
