I am potentially getting a free or very low cost 2wd 95 auto 4.0 and want to make a pre-runner out of it. The wife wants a convertible or a Y/TJ, etc. Well since funds are an issue and the price of the Cherokee is optimum, I was wondering if anyone has considered cutting out the top of the roof and fabricating a slide soft "moon roof" ala old VW bugs and Peugots?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Geoff

You can cut the middle out, leave the supports and user a sliding s10 bed cover..

I've seen a few done like that..

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to pimp another jeep forum, so forgive me and delete my post if its illegal. I thought what this guy did was really sweet.

Thanks for the input/advice! That sliding tops site is pretty cool. I am definately going to go "open top" on the Cherokee.

Here is one of my favorites. This guy has mad skills, i think it said he was an engineer. Removable hard top on a 2 door XJ.

Post 31 has all the pictures.

ive been thinking of doing kinda the same thing as the guy on pirate when i first seen it but instead of making the hard top to go back on, just having a soft top made for it.

My "other' wheeler is an 84 Yota ( was going to sell it when I got the XJ but haven't yet). I have only taken the top off a couple times. It is fun with it off but a PITA and heavy to take on and off.
