my 91 xj runs great that is once you get it started. i have done a complete tuneup including fuel filter but is still as cold natured as old out of tune carbd vehicle. once it does start it will fire rt off every time after until it sits over night then it just cranks and dies five or six times then it will finally start and idle on its on but takes it a few mins before you can accelerate without it dying please oh yeah i have also replaced the map sensor. any ideas?

Do you have good fuel pressure? A 4.0L is designed to look for at least 3 correct pulses from the CPS before it turns on the ignition and put power to the injectors. People think they should stasrt right away but they are designed to need a few parameters met first so a slow start is to be expected.
You can shorten the start time by turning the key to the run position and wait for the fuel pump to build pressure on the fuel rail (8-10 seconds) then when you crank it it needs the starter to turn the motor over at a minimum of 300 RPM to meet those parameters that I stated earlier. Once they are all met then the ECU will have sufficent data to fire the ignition and the injectors causing the engine to run.
Hope this expolanation helps you understand the Cherokee a little better.
