One blinker out, but bulb still works for hazards
Hey guys, I ran into this bizarre blinker problem today. After several Google searches, it seems that no one else has posted about this issue yet.
My back right turn signal will not work, but the single filament bulb is fine because it comes on when I turn my hazards on. The front right turn signal works fine, and even so, I replaced the relay just in case, since it's so cheap, but no luck.
The green blinker arrow in the instrument cluster works fine, the blinker clicks normally, everything seems fine except the back right bulb just won't light up.
I'm assuming it's not the switch in the steering column since the front right blinker works fine, and I don't think it's a ground/wiring issue on the back right bulb since it works fine with the hazards. Maybe I'm wrong here?
What else is there? Am I missing something obvious here?
Thanks!

It's the same single filament bulb thats working fine for the left rear blinker. I didn't mention that I also swapped the left and right rear blinker bulbs just to ensure it wasn't a bulb issue. The bulb worked fine (blinker and hazard) when I put it on the left side, and the left side bulb would only do hazard on the right side...

Multifunction switch (blinker/bright stalk assembly). They go bad, pretty common
Edit: I've had two go bad. The first, OEM, would flash both rear blinkers when turning blinker on to turn left. The second one, a Chinese replacement, did exactly what yours is doing.

If so, mine is a 1993, which has a different blinker switch assembly and steering column from the newer XJ's; would that make any difference, or was yours an older XJ too?

Mine is a 97 and has the "newer" design. Not sure about the older set up at all, sorry I couldn't help out more! I did just watch a vid on replacement of the older switches... involves much more work than the newer design
