Default Okay to drive with front drive shaft removed?

1998 XJ, Classic
Auto, 4X4

I have a bunch of problems with my front end and I've removed the front driveshaft to change the U-joints. I'm wondering if it's okay to drive it without the front drive shaft until I get around to replacing the U-Joints. I couldn't see anything that could go wrong, but I don't really know if that transfer case could start leaking or something.

you could drive it forever with no front driveshaft.

Doing that will add wear and tear to the T-case chain really bad.

Yeah, I suspect I'm going to get better mileage, but it might snow soon and I want my 4x4 working - just waiting on the Spicer U-joints to come in from Quadratec.
