Default is this a ok XJ ? its a 2001 mod

Hi, i'm looking at a 2001 XJ 4.0L Limited HF. It has 286.000 km, but i have a ZJ 93 4.0 with same km and know that thats not to long. But is a 2001 XJ a good choice? The reason i'm looking at a XJ when i have a ZJ is that i started to love Jeep :-) and its looks like there easier to get parts for the XJ?
The XJ i look at need new head gasket and radiator, but i have replaced that on my ZJ and there it wasnt a hard job at all.

btw. does it have the AW transmission?

It will need a cylinder head too. Keep looking. The 2000-01 4.0 had cylinder head issues, so you can bet this one is bad if the seller says it needs a head gasket. All XJs from 87 and up had the AW4 if equipped with an automatic.

Yeah, I would do a long block before just replacing the head. But really, I would look for another XJ. This one will a money pit from the start.

OP probably doesn't have much to choose from in Norway. Not sure how the oil pressure gauge works on that, obviously not PSI, but it appears to be good.

Then buy it and be prepared to spend a load of money on it. Ever hear the expression " even a free boat is expensive"? Same thing for cheap Jeeps.

Yeah but if the price is right and he accounts for the cost of a replacement engine it might still be worth it. Hell I would probably pay close to 2k for a clean 2000/2001 even if the engine is blown.

I havent seen it, but the seller says it has blown head gasket and radiator. He will sell it for the price he ask for with new gasket and radiator, but he also wants a bid on it as it is. He wants 11k USD for it, but if i could get it for maybe as low as 4k USD then i could use some mony on it to get it in good condition.

Wow, XJs are expensive up there!

+1 If you buy that thing expect to replace the whole engine and cooling system. 2000-2001 cylinder heads crack very easily from overheating. It's very rare that the head gasket goes out on these anyway. The result is an exchange between the coolant and oil, and the coolant destroys bearings. Seller has probably packed it with some kind of Stop Leak crud too.
