Oil pressure sensor PN's
I have an erratic oil pressure gauge that usually only shows 0-20psi. I got a HF oil pressure tester and verified the pressure is actually 50-60.
1. is 50-60psi too high? What could be causing this, and what could the side effects be? I'm using a pureONE filter for a 5.0. I think I'll exchange the tester for another when I get my sensor in to confirm that it's not just out of alignment.
2. I have a 1997 4.0 with a gauge, not idiot light. It only has 2 wires and the connector is a simple tab style, not the newer type. What PN do I need? It looks like there's been lots of changes over the years.

With a MOPAR sensor mine idles at 40 and goes as high as 70 at highway speeds. Sorry but I don't know the part #. '96 and maybe early '97 was a transition period. When I did the cluster swap mine took a '96 oil sensor but a '97 temp sensor. Best thing to do is first off is use MOPAR sensors. Secondly take the old ones with you.

Firstly, I would be sure that filter is compatible w/ the 4.0l and that you are running the correct viscosity of oil.
Secondly, the part# you want is 56031003AB for the '97.
Lastly, then check the pressure.

I'm using a different filter than him (NAPA #1459). He doesn't say what oil. I'm using either T6 0W40 or 5W40. What's ever available. Mostly 5W though.

I think I used PL30001, but the gauge problem started before that. I actually changed the filter thinking it might solve it, but it didn't.
Ordered an oil sensor, will report when it's done.

Sensor fixed my problem, so I guess I'm lucky it was a simple solution. It matches what the Harbor Freight gauge indicated but a little slow to respond with RPM changes.
