Hey CF. I was changing the oil in my '98 XJ and I broke the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. The oil filter was stuck and I probably accidentally bumped it, causing it to break. I didn't notice until I started it and the "Check Gauges" light came on. Is it hard to remove the remaining piece? It's in there and obviously there isn't a lot of room to work. Thanks & KCCO
Good lord! Have you been driving through salt water? There is a lot of corrosion on that piece. It's supposed to be a hexagon that you can put a wrench on. Soak it with PB blaster and wire brush it a bit. See if you can get a wrench on it. If not. Vise grip it. It should unscrew fairly easily.

The elbow coming off the filter mount is 7/8" I believe. Just turn it so you get more room. Oil pressure sending unit is normally 1-1/8? But 27mm also works. Or just use vice grips. Not a lot of torque on these parts. Thread sealer and the type of fitting make the seal. I would buy the replacement from the dealer or use NAPA Echlin series sensors for worry free fit and function.

I just bought this Jeep and I'm the second owner. It's originates from PA
So.... Theoretically, I should be able to put a pair of Vice Grips on the rusted looking ring and turn it free?

Also, many ppl in this forum recommend dealership parts or NAPA as your only reliable alternative. I use rock auto, autozone and advance auto with 100% success. I bought this part at advance 3 years ago and it works perfectly. Saved a few bucks that I ultimately poured into the gas tank.

OPSU is hardly going to leave you stuck though. So do whatever.

I had a brand new NAPA water pump fail about a year after I put it in, just out of warranty. NAPA used to be the gold standard, but not so much any more.

I suggested the NAPA Echlin sensor because I haven't heard of any issues with their Echlin sensors. I have heard of Advance sensors leaking, not fitting, and/or being defective out of the box. I don't recommend NAPA for everything and in some cases they're more expensive than the dealer.
