I really must be a bit slower then the rest, i couldn't for the life of me figure how to get the plug, out the back... there is a red little clip that slides out of the top of the plastic plug thing, then i go to yanking on it, but nothing. I'm trying to figure out were to lift to get it out from the clip things, but to my luck, no prevail. But the strangest thing every, is the oil pressure is back to normal.... new part still in box. what a mystery, ill tomorrow again after work go to yanking and see what will give.

the clip should push down and pull on it, but not to hard may pull the wires out. also could have been dirty or bad contact on the plug to the switch. but at least you know its working right but i will still replace it due to it could be going out.
for the other jeeper with the 4.6 lt. make sure the plug is clean and replace it also. oil pressure switch/sensor

Ok im a nub, is a cold start shooting up to 80psi then coming to the normal 40 - 60 while driving ok for the jeep or is the thing still faulty? I never really paid that much attention to the oil pressure gauge.

well 40 to 60 is somewhat ok. should be around 30-50 psi. just keep an eye on it. but other then that you will be fine. far as the cold crank to 80 psi just the gauge read the first read as the engine turns over the gose to the right psi.

Sorry for being a pain, but could you explain why 80 psi is bad for the oil pressure gauge to be reading and for the engine..?

Also is there anything special i need to no about replacing this besides unplugging the plug and unscrewing and repeat backwards for installation?

I had the EXACT same symptoms on my 2000xj. Changed the oil, filter, px switch etc with no luck. The problem turned out to be the oil pump.
