oil pressure maxes out.
Have a 2000 Cherokee and sometimes when I start it the oil pressure will max out to 80, doesn't do it all the time. I have heard of oil filters blowing apart, could this cause it to blow apart. I thought possibly oil pressure switch. Any help appreciated.

Check and replace the oil pressure sending unit. Recommend NAPA Echlin or dealer replacements. It's about the only reason you'd peg the gauge. There's a 99% chance this a sensor problem rather than a mechanical one. The factory overpressure valve is set at 75 psi.
