Oil pressure jumping very high
It started jumping past 80 this morning.
Now it's jumping to the screw this evening.
It will do this during acceleration, both hard and soft.
This morning it was like this for 7 miles and went back to normal (being just a touch over 40 with slight movements on acceleration).
This afternoon it was like that all the way home (30 miles).
This evening it jumped to the screw and stayed there for a minute or two until I was almost home. Then back to normal.
Doesn't seem to be running abnormally.
I've searched and come across four possible problems:
1. Sender unit malfunction.
2. Something in the oil pump.
3. Blown gaskets on the oil pan and possibly other places.
4. Blown lifters.
I've been leaking oil for a while, which is at the rear of the engine.
Figure it's the RMS since the bolts are all tight.
If it's pegging that high, and it's not the sender, what am I looking at for damage?

Most likely the sender. Get a genuine mopar one. You can verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.
In regards to your oil leak, read this... http://cruiser54.com/?p=96

my 2000 did that ONCE . scared me then figured it was sender or guage driver circuits. a post explained that all gages are driven by data bus signals, not direct from senders..??

When this happened to me I spent a whopping sixteen bucks and got a Bosch mechanical gauge to verify pressure. Took all of maybe 10 minutes, tops, to install the mechanical gauge, check the pressure, and put the new sender in.
Now I have a mechanical gauge I can use for testing.
