Oil pressure gauge is currently inoperable, (96 4x4 xj) I have had the jeep for a few months and it always had wild off the chart readings, however the engine runs completely fine and I only have some small regular leaks. No milky oil either.

I am going to replace it soon and we shall see what the readings are.

Question is this, should I get a mechanical gauge just to see if the crazy off the chart readings were accurate?

 

It's never a bad idea to verify with a mechanical gauge. I'll bet your pressure sender has failed though. It's pretty common.

 

and it's easier to replace than the gauge

 

Ok cool, I will swing by the auto shop tomorrow and rent one and edumacate myself.

 

just get a new sending unit thats your prob if your not hearing any noise.
