oil pressure gague acting like a tac
im a very routine maintnence guy, oil changes every 3k and recetly my oil gague has been reading above 80 psi when i give it anymore then idle throttle. if i let off it comes back to the norm which is about 38-45 anymore then 2k in rpms and it shoots past 80.
is it just being a dummy gage or could i have a serious oil delivery issue?

Your oil pressure sender is bad. Mine had same problem. So i went and bought 1 and it worked for about a week and then it started acting up again.

i can hear the oil drain from the block when i shutdown. does the pressure sender effect oil delivery at all?

nope, it sends the pressure to the gauge and that is it. it is screwed into an adapter just above your oil filter. It often gets bumped when working in the area and the plastic separates from the metal easy, causing those crazy readings. As long as it isnt dripping oil you are safe to drive for a little while until you can replace it. Just know if you have issues arise you may not see them before it is too late.

On my 97 XJ that sender is located directly above/right of the oil filter, so that I have regularly damaged it when wrestling the oil filter out of the little opening. Then a replacement did not quite fit the pigtail and had to be modified. Without such complication, replacing it is a five minute effort.
