The main caps look super dry, not as if its been sitting for a couple days. Almost looks like some rust in there too. Do you keep up on oil changes? May be time to switch to diesel oil to take advantage of the detergents in it.

Yeah I noticed that. What kind of oils would help? I change the oil by the book although I always topped it off once a week. each one of the bearing caps were covered in oil though. the rod caps looked really dry.

Dang, was that pan on there with RTV? Brake clean is acceptable to clean the crankcase, you'll probably need it on the oil pan gasket surface anyway. You just don't want it on the cylinders or it will wash away the oil and they can begin to rust.
The only motor oil that contains a comparable level of Calcium and Magnesium to Rotella T6 is Amsoil Signature Series. High levels of those detergents will keep your motor clean. Both of those oils have excellent Anti-Wear Additive levels as well. Maybe once the pan is back on, a couple of short term oil changes will clean her right up. Are you doing the Rear Main while you're in there?

The old gasket was some disgusting mix of a WHOLE tube of RTV and some black one piece gasket. I'm doing the rear main. To be honest it's going to get basic stp 10w-40 because that's what I have handy at the moment. I'll have to spend the day scraping off the dirt and oil buildup all over the transmission and axle and literally everything else. The pan is clean and painted now.
Do I need to RTV around the oil pump where it bolts to the block?

You sure its leaking from the pan? You have a lot going on right above that point. Oil psi sensor, oil filter housing adapter and distributor gasket all come to mind and are all likely culprits.
