I assume you are speaking of the adapter. If the non OEM rings leak, you will wish you had waited. Try the tool you have to do the job and break the cover loose and if it works easily, then I say go for it now. If it is a hassle WAIT for the proven o ring. Lube it like the filter seal.

I used the kit from NAPA for the OFA, oil filter adapter. All is well two years later.

Auto Zone calls it a gasket but it is an O RING The oil filter screws into the adapter. The o ring is on the engine side. That is what you remove the with the 60 torx to get to. I hope this is what you are referring to.

NAPA had the 3-ring kit for the Cherokee. Not a random 13 piece. Diameter and thickness need to be correct, also material. Not all o-rings are oil-fuel-heat resistatant

Do you have an Advance auto parts near you? Fel-Pro part # 70301, it's just the one big O-ring that you need and it's $1.49 . Installed this on my 4.0 and have had zero leaks.

Not sure if you have the 90 degree oil filter adapter. They require three o-rings, two being smaller than the other. All three need to be replaced.

Well crap... haha. Where do the two smaller o-rings go? I just replaced the big one holding the adapter to the block.

^ There is a stem inside the adapter. I believe this is what turns when removing/installing adapter. See picture for reference.

Correct that is what turns, I removed mine all as one piece with the stem still connected to the adapter. I think I remember wondering what was holding the two together, and now I see it's the other 2 O-rings. Doh!

YES! If Napa has a three ring kit for HO, (91 on), go for it. It's the multi kit that I found worthless.

Here's links, > OIL FILTER ADAPRER O RINGS http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-rep...filter-adapter And a link with torx.. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/oi...o-ring-127359/
