fram filters have a bad or notorious for being bad drain back valve. they are the only filter i've read bad things about. so why not go another route. WIX filters for me.

And you know this because you have hooked it up to a machine that measures how many particles pass through the filter and how many are actually filtered? I work in a parts store and purolator filters are the cheepest you can buy and i find it hard to belive that they are any better than fram or wix for that matter.

Guys, thanks for all comments. I ended up changing oil without oil filter as I needed car to go to work.

I am based in Ireland and I have very limited access to all parts for Jeep (had to preorder oil filter!).

I will try scredwriver trick but if it won't work I am screwd.

also when your coming in from the top you will see a little plug thing going into the engine with a wire coming from it right above the oil filter. this is the oil pressure sending unit. it'd be wise just to disconnect the little wire clip which will give you a lot more room to get a filter wrench in there. i've broken 3 over the years from not disconnecting it and hitting it with my hand so its just something to keep in mind. other than that change your filter! you should be able to get it out just keep in mind nothings easy.

The oil filter pliers work well. Here's a link to some similar to the ones I use....

Another WIX fan here. The local Napa has a filter sale in the spring & in the fall so I just buy a box of them then & it lasts me for a couple years.

yea it seems problems are few and far between. I know the diesel guys will have nothing to do with them. (Im on Midwest Diesel Connection and Cummins Forum) My main point and bottom line about this whole deal is that i have heard horror stories about FRAM filters. I have never heard anything bad about any other filter besides AMSoil filters being too expensive and hardly worth the price. So hearing bad things about FRAM and not hearing nothing about any other filter, makes me not want to run a FRAM but just run something else. I have a amsoil filter on my jeep right now in the oversized PN. Next time the oil is changed is will have a WIX oversized filter. My diesel pickup also gets a WIX.

Yeah, I've heard enough bad stories about Fram to not run them on my vehicles. I've been running only WIX on all of my vehicles for about 7 yrs now... even my 650hp street car.

OP... any luck gettin that filter off?

^maybe with certain lines of the filters there is a production problem? only bad experience i have had with a filter was i got a Bosch filter and the seal cracked and split after only 500 miles.

I'm on a couple of classic motorcycle forums as well as Sunbeam Alpine forums and Fram has a bad rep on all of them.

never had a bad experience with FRAM, although I don't use the cheap ones, I get the toughguard line.

Switching to K&N though cause they have a high capacity oil filter for my DD little wannabe race car, and they have that 1" nut on the end of them...
