Default Oil filter adapter

So, I tried fixing the adapter by removing it. Unfortunately the bolt stripped so now I am stuck. I found someone whom managed to cut his off and buy a new one but it seems too risky to try. I was wondering though if I clean the housing really well and put jb weld on the seams or some other sort of epoxy.

Thanks

The likely hood is that you will never get the JB weld to seal up ever little spot so some place will allow leakage. Secondly JB weld, as good as it is, would be a short term fix as you can chip JB weld with a hammer making me thing that road debris could possible chip it and leave you stranded.

If I were you I would just order a new one from a parts store, online or a dealer.

Heli coil kit will replace the striped out threads in a hole. It will look similar to a spring and the kit will have a tool for placing the coil into the hole.

I looked into a heli kit. The threads are fine, I can't get the bolt out and when I tried with my Allen wrench I ended up rounding the head of the bolt. I have no way of removing the adapter unless I cut it off. It's a little risky to cut it off.

5/16 if I remember correctly it was fairly big. It took a while to find that specific size.

Hmmmmm, I was almost certain it was an Allen style bolt and not a torx.

Thats very possible it is a allen head I was just trying too have you double check it with the torx just cause its a hidden head I could be wrong.

Ok as soon as I get home I'll drop a t-60 in there and see what happens.

Well it's not a t-60 for sure. I tried a t-55 it's too small. I managed to fit a 10mm in it I can try it but I need a breaker bar to turn it over. I can try it this weekend maybe, I think I might round it further. I was thinking though, if I were to find some sort of heat resistant rubber and clamp it as if it were a pipe. It might hold the oil in, it's similar to a plumbers join.

I just did this on mine. The T-60 I bought would not work because I used a T-55 at first and bent the teeth on the star in the oil adapter and I think you have done the same. So what I did, and this may work for you as well, was put the T-60 up there and wiggled it to just get it cleaned out and then used a pry bar against the frame and the T-60 to force it in there. It eventually worked it's way in there with a few good compression's with the pry bar. The best thing to do it to goto your favorite parts store and get a T-60 that is NOT one molded piece. You want the one that looks like a socket with the T-60 shoved into it. Now remove the T-60 from the socket housing by using a deep well socket on the T-60 head and anything you can find to shove in the other end(that the ratchet goes in) so it hits the T-60, you can see it through the ratchet end, and "pop" that T-60 out of the socket housing. Now you have a long T-60 that needs to be moded. Cut 2/3 of the "socket" side of the t-60 off. This will allow the T-60 to set very shallow in a regular 1/2" socket on a 3/8 ratchet. DO NOT use the socket that you took the torx out of throw that socket away. Now you will have enough room to use a 3/8" ratchet or 3/8" breaker bar on the 1/2" socket to break the stupid thing loose. Remember to cut down the T-60 so just the star end of the T-60 sticks out of the 1/2" socket. A large wrench may be necessary on the ratchet handle for leverage, And the socket/ratchet is only used to break it loose, after that you will need to use a 1/2" wrench to turn the torx in the hole without the socket on it. If you need I will post up picks tonight.
