Default OE spare tire swing away arm setup

has anybody ever transferred one of these to a unit that didn't come with it? found this set up in the JY the other day, and was curious if anybody had ever done it. seems like a good set up, and don't have to attach to the bumper. pretty bad ***, just sayin. i realize i will have to drill holes through my rear quarter panel, but if its worth it, then i will go that route vs building my own. i like the latch set up.

Honestly i wouldn't use it with anything bigger then a stock size tire and wheel. If you want bigger tires later on i just see it breaking or messing up your quarter panel maybe.

x2 on only stock sizes. Get something made for the larger sizes. It'll cost a bit, but won't fold anything either.

I installed one over a year ago and confidently holds my 31" spare. The design is simple enough that you can easily transfer the bumper bracket to a basic square aftermarket bumper and I am sure that will help add more support for heavier tires, I might go that route if I even mess up the rear bumper. I've also seen 33s on them, I might try a very light 35.

yeah, i looked at the system, and it appeared pretty decent. i like the latch set up, and figure i could incorporate it into the rear bumper that i plan on building. i don't plan on going with real big tires. what size can i fit at factory height? with maybe 3" lift? don't want to do any trimming. this will be a 'ranch/put around town/grocery getter' unit. nothing special. gets expensive driving my diesel truck everywhere, and this will be easier to take out to the ranch, and dealing with brush....i got enough scratches on my truck.

Without trimming you can easily run 30" tires, 31s tend to rub at 3"s but not too bad.

Make sure you grab the bumper and either the quarter panel bracket inside the body or make sure you design one.

Looking forward to it. One other thing to note is that the bushings that hold the carrier on can't be obtained at the dealership anymore. I put gr.8 washers between the bushing and bolt to add as extra support and safety net. This bearing here is the closest you will find to the factory brass bearings but is made out of steel and has a larger I.D so you'll need to use a sleeve to make it fit snug with the bolt. Just some food for thought for you. http://www.skf.com/group/products/be...imperial=false

I found mine in the JY and added the hoop for my CB antenna mount. I have a 31 10.5 mounted on it and have had no problem.

Make sure you get all the brackets and the bumper. There are support brackets in the bumper and on the inside of the quarter panel. Also take good measurements for the hole locations on the quarter panel.
