odometer issues

I just noticed this today. While driving everything is fine but wheni hit the brakes my odometer cuts out. When I release the brakes, the odometer kicks back up. Any clues? Could it be a failing alternator? No other issues other than this. Jeep is a 99 4.0 aw4

Bad connection in the dash maybe.

So I went to check again now that it's night time. When I hit the brakes my lights turn on and turn off when i release the brakes. Not my headlights but both the orange lights under the headlights. Also, my dash lights up hitting the brakes even though my light switch is off. Weird. Also with my lights on my brake lights are always on
